Arlington Young Dems Swear In New Executive Board
2011 to bring new leadership, new faces to prominent activist group
Arlington, VA—The newly elected leadership of the Arlington Young Democrats (AYD) was sworn in amid much fanfare and many new faces at the home of County Board Member Mary Hynes on Wednesday.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as AYD President and look forward to working with the new board to take up where Gordon, Lauren and the rest of the 2010 officers left off—though I admit, they’re a hard act to follow,” said Jamie Lockhart, who was elected President last week.
Outgoing President Gordon Simonett delivered an impassioned speech to a crowd of more than sixty AYDs and elected officials, including Delegate Bob Brink, Delegate Adam Ebbin, School Board Chair Libby Garvey, Alexandria City Council Member Rob Krupicka, and Clerk of the Circuit Court Paul Ferguson.
Lauren Hall, outgoing Vice President of AYD conducted the swearing in ceremony.
“AYD is one of the most active Young Democrats groups in the country,” said Hall. “Our success and influence in the Commonwealth is a testament to the inclusiveness of our organization and the quality of our membership.”
The officers sworn-in on Wednesday include: Angela Guzman, who serves as Deputy Director of Direct Marketing at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Emily Blout, former Press Secretary for Congressman Jim Moran, Kim Klingler, 2010 Campaign Manager for Arlington County Board Member Chris Zimmerman, Jamie Lockhart, Legislative Assistant for Congresswoman Diana DeGette, Stephanie Dix Clifford, an Associate and Director of Special Events at the Podesta Group, as well as Shawn Logue, Shaun Edwards, Nicole Davies, and Andrea Carlile.
“Join one of AYD’s numerous caucuses, bring a friend to the next AYD meeting, and start gearing up for the local and state elections,” Andrea Carlile urged the new faces in the audience. “Together, we can make a difference, both in Arlington County and down in Richmond. The time is now.”
