A message from the Moran Campaign:
Health Care:
Congressman Moran strongly supported the passage of the Affordable Care Act, in part because of the benefits young adults would receive with its implementation.
AFA will allow extended health care coverage until the age of 26 through one’s parents and lowers costs with free preventive care which extends good health. The law also establishes new patients’ rights and importantly, gives young adults needed security that doesn’t tie health care to a job. Reform also means that getting sick and having a pre-existing condition will no longer be factors that insurance companies can use to drop you or deny coverage. Competitive plans and insurance exchanges will make it easier to pick a plan that works for you and the entire thing is paid for – the law is expected to lower the deficit by $1.3 trillion over the next two decades.
Making Secondary Education Affordable:
Congressman Moran has worked to make sure that college is attainable by making student loans more accessible and affordable. Currently, student loan payments can be capped at 15 percent of discretionary income and existing balances after 25 years will be forgiven. Starting in 2014, borrowers will be able to cap payments at ten percent of discretionary income, with balances forgiven after 20 years.
The Congressman recently cosponsored the “Student Loan Forgiveness Act” (H.R. 4170) which would create a new “10-10 standard” for student loan forgiveness. This means if you make payments equal to ten percent of your discretionary income for ten years, your remaining federal student loan debt would be forgiven. Jim has also supported more affordable Subsidized Stafford Loan rates.
Creating and Retaining Jobs:
Congressman Moran’s dedication to maintaining a high employment rate in Northern Virginia is unparalleled. He has consistently voted for bills that will save and create jobs, and keep these jobs in the U.S.
These efforts have included supporting teachers and public servants, increasing the minimum wage, and protecting workplace rights and safety.
By re-electing Jim Moran, you are securing more affordable health care and education, and ensuring maximum job opportunities in the area. A vote for Jim Moran is a vote for young adults and the future of our local and national economy.
