Our Annual Charity Date Auction is tonight! This year’s auction will feature an all-star line up of auctionees and prizes. Come to bid on the Metro Area’s sexiest bachelors and bachelorettes to support a worthy cause! AYD Members will receive a free bid card. Non-members can join in for only $5. Arrive by 7pm to be entered into the first drawing of the night- $75 to Fireworks Pizza!

We also have some fabulous celebrity MC’s this evening, including Tina Montgomery, Miss Virginia International 2008 and Richard Fowler, host of the Richard Fowler Show on We Act Radio, 1480 AM!

Auction items include power coffees with  Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair and Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz , former Virginia Congressman Tom Perriello,  and former DNC Chair Terry McAuliffe; two tickets to the Arlington Democrats 2012 Jefferson-Jackson Dinner featuring Anne Holton, the former First Lady of Virginia and wife of our next U.S. Senator Tim Kaine. AYD will donate half the event proceeds to help Doorways for Women and Families.  Much more than a charity, Doorways’ mission is to help build a community where everyone can live free from domestic violence in safe and stable housing.

Apply to be a Convention Delegate

As a first step toward the DNC convention in Charlotte, NC, Arlington is holding its own caucus to select our 78 delegates and 16 alternates to the 8th District (5/19) and Virginia State Democratic (6/2) Conventions, both in Fairfax County. To become a delegate or alternate, you must complete and submit a filing form to ACDC Secretary Charley Conrad no later than 5:00pm on April 16, 2012.

Tuesday’s event will help provide the resources to organize and mobilize young voters between now and November. There will be a big focus on Northern Virginia and Arlington for the 2012 election, and this fundraiser will certainly help make sure we get young voters active in the campaigns for President Obama, and Governer Kaine for the US Senate.

Join AYD in Richmond for VAYD Convention; Network with Activists for 2012!

 

This March 30th through April 1st, join your fellow Arlington Young Democrats as we travel to Richmond for the Annual Virginia Young Democrats Convention!

This is a great opportunity to meet and network with fellow young Democrats and activists from all over Virginia.  In addition, you will be able to participate in some great advocacy, issue, and political trainings as we all get ready for the general election in November.  As a participant, you will also have a chance to get involved with the Virginia Young Democrats, vote for officers, and join any of the various caucuses at the state level!

In order to attend, you must be a current dues paying AYD member.  If you haven’t paid dues ($20/year)  to AYD within the last year, click here to renew or join today!

The total cost for attendance is $55, and will give you the following:

  • The cost of registration for convention
  • Transport in an AYD sponsored carpool/ reimbursement for miles travelled
  • Lodging in an AYD sponsored room Friday/Saturday (up to 4/room)
  • Breakfast and lunch on Saturday
  • A ticket to the VAYD Awards Dinner Banquet (and dinner) on Saturday night
  • Brunch on Sunday

This comes out to approximately a $110 value for only $55!

What Happens Next?

Once you have signed up, you will be contacted in the coming weeks by AYD to confirm your lodging and carpool details (if applicable).  AYD is handling all registration and lodging reservations, so there is nothing you need to do once you submit your $55 payment.

Mardis Gras/St. Patrick’s Day Parade with AYD and the Arlington Democrats!
Tuesday, February 21st, 7pm

Arlington Dems! This Fat Tuesday (Feb. 21st), join up with your fellow Democrats and show your Mardi Gras and St. Patty’s Day Spirit! We will begin lining up at 7:15pm at a place TBD. At 8:00pm, we will then parade from Courthouse to Clarendon.

Are you interested in attending a Young Democrats of America meeting in Chicago?  AYD is considering helping to partially sponsor AYD members to participate in the YDA Winter Conference in Chicago from March 9th to March 11th.  If you are interested in attending, please email Gordon at vp@arlingtonyoungdems.org
The conference will include a number of joint sessions and trainings with the College Democrats of America, and you will have the opportunity to tour the Obama headquarters and hear from senior campaign staff.   If you are interested in attending, the registration deadline is on February 24th.  Please visit the AYD website here for details

AYD Weekly Update- 2/1/12

Congratulations to Stephanie Clifford!

This past weekend, the Virginia Young Democrats honored all the Young Democrat candidates who ran for office in 2011, at its annual J. Sargeant Reynolds Dinner.  Our own Stephanie Clifford was recognized for her run for the House of Delegates. Congratulations!

Join the Arlington Young Democrats as we recognize Black History Month and welcome Congressman Bob Filner (D-CA) to speak to us about his involvement with the Freedom Rides during the Civil Rights era.

Virginia Democrats’ Jefferson-Jackson Dinner Weekend in Richmond

Join the Arlington Young Democrats for the annual Virginia Democrats’ Jefferson-Jackson Dinner!

Friday Night: Festivities begin with a reception for Young Democrats featuring special guest Brian Bond, who is the Director of Constituency Outreach for the Democratic National Committee.

Saturday Morning: Join Arlington Young Democrats’ leadership at the Virginia Democrats’ Women’s Caucus annual breakfast (8am). Contact Lauren at president@arlingtonyoungdems.org if you are interested in joining. (We will be coordinating rides both from Friday and early Saturday for folks wanting to go to the breakfast.)

Saturday Night: Jefferson-Jackson dinner, featuring Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer. Governor Schweitzer was elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2008, and was mentioned by many in 2008 to be on the short list for Vice President.
