Call for AYD volunteers -- Arlington Democrats School Board Caucus Needs You!
Six candidates are seeking the endorsement of the Arlington County Democrats in the 2008 School Board race. There is the potential for a record turnout in the ACDC "firehouse primary" on the evening of Thursday, May 1 and day Saturday, May 3. Therefore, we need plenty of volunteers to help us with some fairly easy stuff, like register voters, watch over ballot boxes, guide voters through the process, hand out ballots and the like. Not hard work but very important!
If you are new to AYD, or haven't been to a meeting recently, this is a GREAT opportunity to meet a few thousand fellow Democrats, and make friends with loads of other volunteers. If you are supporting one or more candidates, helping to manage the Caucus is an excellent opportunity to get an eye-witness, hands-on view of the fairness of the voting process.
Best of all, helping out for a few hours on either day can earn you some school credit. You can sign up by contacting Jim Ullrich, Newsletter Editor, at newsletter@arlingtonyoungdems.org or discuss the event details with Bob Platt, the Caucus Director, by calling him at 202.939.7900 or at this website: http://www.racepacket.com/calendar/sb.htm
AYD Newsletter Committee Openings
The Newsletter Committee has a few open positions:
- Newsletter Supervisor: This is an extremely important position on the Committee, as the quarterly newsletter is the most significant piece of communication done by the Steering Committee to the AYD membership. The position will handle the task of creating the first draft of the newsletter, by assembling articles, collecting a few appropriate photos from our photographer, formatting the content into the existing newsletter template. The final draft will then be printed and distributed via regular mail. The mailing project will be handled either by the Newsletter Supervisor in coordination with James, the Newsletter Editor. (The newsletter will be mailed to members unless extraordinary budget or time constraints prohibit this, in which case it will be emailed).
- Writers: No Communication Committee would be complete without a team of Contributing Writers. The Communication Committee Contributing Writer will contribute short articles for the Newsletter (or an occasional membership email) about various AYD events or news of interest. They will have much latitude in deciding what to write about.
If you are interested in joining the Communication Committee please contact Jim Ullrich at newsletter@arlingtonyoungdems.org.
